Hell, if a character played a major role in season one, they are most likely Demotedto Extra in season 2 and especially season 3.

The Metal series takes this up a notch due to having a LOT of major characters. Reiner, Bertolt, and Ymir all flee human territory in the aftermath of the climatic battle with the multi-branch force. Once revealed and cornered, though, she puts herself in a Crystal Prison and has been in custody offscreen since. Annie seems to be suffering from this when she joins the Military Police Brigade, but she spends the next storyline as the primary antagonist in her Titan form.
